About
BETTY BRANDT PASSICK is married and a grandmother, retired from a Fortune 500 Company, and spends her days writing novels about historical crime. Her debut book tells the factual story of the ‘mystery man’ who came to her Iowa hometown in the early 1920s. He told locals he was bookkeeper for Al Capone, but nearly 100 years later no one still knew if that was fact or fiction. Through FBI and police reports, newspaper accounts–and the embellished tales of those who knew the gangster best, she wove this unique and sometimes wacky story. Gangster in our Midst. The book won a 2019 Top 100 Notable Indie Book Award. In 2021 she returned to “Oxbow” to write book two in the Gangster Series, The Black Bag of Dr. Wiltse, Murder on the Prairie, which tells an earlier piece of the gangster story. It too has now won an award—to be announced soon! Book three will be available in the Summer of 2023. She wrote two significant memoirs before her two novels.
